Low Libido and Thyroid Dysfunction
We all know that thyroid disfunction can cause a whole host of problems.
You may have heard of:
- Fatigue
- Weight gain
- Weight loss
- Hair loss
- Dry skin
The list goes ON.
But have you ever heard of thyroid disease causing low libido (low sex drive)?
Probably not.
I think there are two reasons for this.
- It’s not something we love to talk about, so even though women everywhere are suffering from a low sex drive, they don’t tell anyone. In fact, about 50% of women report having low sex drive in the last 3 months!
- Women are taught that having a low sex drive isn’t something to go to the doctor’s about. You’re just tired and stressed and it’s totally normal that you don’t really feel like having sex all that much anymore, right? WRONG.
We need our libidos. Our sex drives are an important part of our relationships, happiness, and all the good stuff that comes with having good sex…like increased dopamine levels, helping to balance hormones and even lowering blood pressure. Not to mention the whole procreation thing.
Thyroid disease doesn’t just affect a woman’s libido, over 50% of men suffering from hypothyroidism experience low libido too.
Don’t worry, you are not doomed to a life with a low sex drive and the future of our species is not at risk, because there are ways you can address those thyroid issues and libido concerns. In fact, many women report an increase in libido after receiving treatment for thyroid disease.
Don’t be another woman who thinks their low libido is just another part of getting older you are forced to accept and just deal with.
Let’s do something about it together!
