Are you Prepared for Menopause?
By 2025 there will be over 1 billion women in menopause, which is about 12% of the population. Of these women it is estimated that as many as 85% will experience menopause-related symptoms.
77% find their symptoms very difficult to deal with and 44% of these experience 3 or more symptoms such as sleep disturbances, brain fog, and anxiety or depression.
Despite the commonality of menopause-related symptoms and the effect that they have on a woman’s quality of life, a recent survey of over 4000 women showed that most women feel like they were not well supported and that they are lacking options or solutions.
Of these women, only 39% stated that they were offered menopause hormone therapy and only 14% were currently taking menopause hormone therapy, which is the gold standard for the treatment of symptoms of menopause.
Women need better information about symptoms of menopause as well as changes in disease risk that happen at this time in their lives.
We also need to change the narrative about menopause hormone therapy as too many women are being taught to fear hormones and are offered antidepressants instead of menopause hormone therapy. This is a missed opportunity for improving a woman’s quality of life and trajectory of health as she ages.
Menopause is normal, all women go through it, and hormone therapy is not a panacea. In addition, hormone therapy isn’t for everyone and there are other options; BUT it needs to be part of the conversation.
Regardless of whether menopause hormone therapy (MHT/HRT) is right for you, or not, there are options to help you feel better and improve your health as you transition into menopause; a multidisciplinary approach is best!
If you are in your 40’s and are starting to notice changes is your menstrual cycle or just not feeling like yourself, you may be in perimenopause. I would love to help you through this time in your health, book your free alignment call to see how I can help!
