ACCOUNTABILITY GETS YOU BETTER HEALTH OUTCOMES.
We see better patient health outcomes, when there is an element of accountability present. This may be from your Naturopathic Doctor, your best friend, or your partner. You may feel most held accountable from the other women in our SHETalks monthly groups; women who GET IT. Who, like you, have walked the walk. They, too, understand how it can be a challenge to juggle commitments with children, friends, partners and work. And on top of this, may also be struggling to find ‘me’ time, to read that book, go to that yoga class, or finally stop pushing off that lunch date with that dear friend you really wanting to see. Accountability can come from many different sources, and we’d like to highlight some of those.
When it comes to our health, most of us generally know what to do – from the foods we’re eating, to instinctively knowing how important self-care is. It is not only important for you to know that your needs should be placed higher on the ‘to do’ list once again, and we have the accountability tools to make that happen.
It certainly is easier said than done, to make time for ourselves. Like many of us, the follow through can be the hardest part. We know what we should be doing, but can’t seem to bring ourselves to do it.
Here are some of our recommended ways to optimize accountability, in hopes of accomplishing your health goals.
- Tell someone else what you plan on doing. Be specific with them, giving them all the details of what you plan to accomplish, and how you will carry this plan out. And see if they’re on board with joining you. Keeping in mind, most of us benefit more from a group or multiple people for accountability, rather than one individual. The reason being, that if your accountability partner chooses to opt out of that goal you share, you are more likely to opt out as well. Not only can the accountability partner keep you accountable to the goal you’ve both created, they can also make it easier for you to opt out of the plan. For example, if you and your accountability partner are doing an elimination diet and at 4pm they suggest going for pizza, it can be very hard to resist joining in, especially if they’re eating pizza right in front of you. We don’t want to create any unnecessary excuses that don’t need to be there. For this reason, find an accountability group or a few people rather than relying on just one individual.
- SHETalks Monthly Group. These groups are lead by one of our Naturopathic Doctors, designed to facilitate the start of important conversations, with other like-minded women. They’re about connection; connection with other women, by cutting the superficial small-talk. We want you to succeed just as much as you do. Topics can range from important lab tests you may need, to boundary setting, to women’s libido, and everything in between.
- The Health Over All Food Meal Plan App. Especially if your health goals involve food – which most health goals do – this app is likely for you. Finding a way to check in with yourself daily, is essential. One of the most valuable tools with this App, is that our Naturopathic Doctors are also checking in on your daily updates. We have been told that knowing their updates will be reviewed by our Naturopathic Doctors, has been what has kept some of our patients on board and accountable.
- Ask us about our Well Women Assessments. When it comes to accountability, we’ve got you. Depending on where you are with your health journey, you may be at a time when you feel like you could use a little extra support. Our Well Women Assessments are designed as both an individual program as well as a group program, functioning as the complete women’s health assessment.
